Book Club Friday

I found a fun, new blog to stalk read! Go visit Heather at Blonde...Undercover Blonde...
She is one of the hosts of Book Club Friday, which I am super excited to link up with! I'm always looking for something new to read. {And I'm thinking this will be the accountability I need to actually get through the rest of the books I'm planning to read this summer...} :)

So anyway, what are you reading?

I read:

{Isn't it obvious?}
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins

The Synopsis:
Against all odds, Katniss Everdeen has won the annual Hunger Games with fellow district tribute Peeta Mellark. But it was a victory won by defiance of the Capitol and their harsh rules. Katniss and Peeta should be happy. After all, they have just won for themselves and their families a life of safety and plenty. But there are rumors of rebellion among the subjects, and Katniss and Peeta, to their horror, are the faces of that rebellion. The Capitol is angry. The Capitol wants revenge. -via

My Thoughts:
I LOVED this book! I just finished it Wednesday and immediately started the next in the series. :) I could hardly put it down, but at the same time I didn't want it to end so I'd read really slow and go back to reread pages or paragraphs. Good times.

The characters and plot quickly draw you in... it's fast-moving, exciting, and emotional at times. I also loved how Katniss' personality and sarcasm came out a bit more in this book as she narrates. I felt like I knew her better in this one.

I love the way Collins writes about the characters & setting, and the way she sets the tone of the story. She's very descriptive, but not obvious or long-winded. While some might say The Hunger Games is just the new Twilight, I say that this book/series has significantly more depth and relevance. {It'd be great for a middle school or high school English class!} And while I did kind of enjoy the Twilight series, the writing in this one is of higher quality. I'd recommend it to anyone who could read.

  5. I loved Catching Fire too. So good. I thought it was as good as the first one. If only it wasn't taking so long for the movie to come out!

  6. Isn't the ending of Catching Fire crazy? I literally had to reread it several times to actually understand what happened. And I was definitely happy I read them after they were all already published. Can you imagine what it would have been like to have to wait months to pick up Mockingjay?
